Scope and Content The jurors present that by a statute of his realm [32 Henry VII, c.13 (1541)] that if any horses called "stonehorses" above 2 years old and not above 14 hands high, found in any forest, chase, moor, common or waste ground, then it is lawful for any person or persons to chase and retain such horse or horses. And if they should not remain in such forest etc. for the space of 4 days after public proclamation at the dwelling house of the owner of the same etc. that then such horse is not forfeited. And whereas the horse of William Abell of Wivenhoe labourer, on 7 July being in his pasture escaped and went out on to "Wyvenho commo". And Simon Cock of Colchester butcher on 11 July before any public notice was given foreibly took the same "stonehorse". (No notes) [ASS 35/23/T/31]
